GPS and cell phone safety tips

Atlanta encompasses a large metro area. One could easily be intimidated by its size and highways that intersect all around the city. The use of the GPS and/or cell phone makes life easy, as in other large metropolitan cities.

Additionally, Atlanta’s metro cities boast a wide variety of sporting venues and events, including countless little league programs.

Recently, a car was broken into that happened to be at a football game. The family’s car was parked on the green, adjacent to the stadium. Upon returning to the car, they realized the car had been broken into. The GPS, prominently displayed on the dashboard, remote garage door opener, and some cash had been taken.

The victims then returned home to find that it had been ransacked. The thieves knew they were at the football game and about what time it would end. They had all the information needed to perform the crime. The GPS system took them to the victim’s home, while the remote garage door opener granted them access to the home.

Things that could’ve averted the situation would’ve been to hide the GPS, and do not include home address in it. Instead, use a nearby address or landmark.

On a separate incident, a woman’s purse was stolen, which contained her credit cards, bank card, and cell phone. She called her husband later from a pay phone to inform him of what had happened. He replied that he had just received a text from her a short time ago requesting their pin number. They arrived at the bank only to discover, that their account had been drained.

The lesson to this incident is to refrain from listing contacts as husband, wife, etc. Also, if husband, wife, or child texts requesting certain information, call them back to be certain.

As sad as these stories are, there is a far greater tragedy awaiting those who are not prepared for the Kingdom of heaven. The following verses speak on wisdom and preparedness:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 KJV
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16 (KJV)

And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.” Luke 12:39 (JKV)

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:18-20 (KJV)

“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” I Thessalonians 5:2 (KJV)
