Governor Schwarzenegger is threatening to veto up to 700 bills if lawmakers can't agree today on a plan to revamp the San Joaquin Delta. Federal courts and agencies have ordered severe reductions in pumping to protect the delta's collapsing ecosystem.
The governor has until Sunday night at midnight to sign legislation including SB 827 which is emergency legislation introduced by Senator Roderick Wright to to re-establish the issuance of emissions credits from a special SCAQMD credit bank and generate up to $ 4 billion in economic activity.
SB 827 is backed by a broad coalition of local municipalities, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and unions.
