Governor Rick Scott has promised to improve educational outcomes in Florida. He lead the opening the Educational Accountability Summit and is hoping the results of this event will lead to improved student outcomes.
One major area involves teacher evaluations. Many political leaders including Governor Rick Scott believe strongly that teacher pay should be tied to the performance the students of those teachers teach. Many teachers have complained that they have little control over the lives of the students they area teaching and therefore should not be held as accountable for the performance of their students.
They say that many factors influence student performance on standardized tests such as family situations and text anxiety.
"I don't like the fact that these standardized tests are used to determine how much a teacher is paid or even if they get to keep their jobs," said Susan Alfred.
It will be interesting to see the results of this summit.
