“When it comes to supporting our veterans, Illinois is second to none,” Governor Quinn said after he signed legislation on August 16 that will help in managing donations and grants for Illinois’ veterans.
According to a press release, the bill represents the next step forward for Illinois Joining Forces. The Illinois Joining Forces Foundation will support Illinois Joining Forces, which was created in 2012, providing veterans, active military and their families with a network of organizations to turn to for assistance. This new law establishes a partnership which allows the Illinois Joining Forces program to solicit, accept and disperse grants and donations on behalf of Illinois’ veterans.
Many veterans, active military and their families can be overwhelmed with the assistance available to them today. State representatives say that this is where the Foundation excels, providing a one-stop shop where Illinois military can find the programs and services they need - when they need it.
Governor Quinn has been an active leader for Illinois’ military families and veterans, and this law will create an innovative foundation that will help further Illinois Joining Forces’ mission of supporting veterans.
“This law is just another way a grateful state can say ‘thank you’ to those who served,” said Governor Quinn.
