Recent news of the continued support of Tibet by the Governor of West Bengal is of great psychological benefit to Tibetans at a time when China has been cracking down harder than ever on dissent in Tibet. In an article in Jan. 10, 2013, The Tibet Post International has reported, Governor of West Bengal Assures Unflinching Support to the Tibetan People.
The north-east zone Tibetan Parliamentary delegation met this week with the honourable Governor of West Bengal, Shri M.K Narayanan at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata. Narayanan expressed "unflinching support of the Indian government towards the Tibetan people and said the Tibetans inside Tibet have the right to live with dignity."
Narayanan commented that in the wake of the rampant human rights violations which have been occurring inside Tibet, the Tibetans must adopt a careful position and a forward strategy to resolve the crisis. Narayanan has been involved with the Tibetan cause ever since 1960 when, as a staff of the Intelligence Bureau of the Indian Government, he personally oversaw the development of the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe in Karnataka state.
The Tibetan parliamentary delegation has appealed to the Indian leaders for solidarity and for support of the Indian government and it’s people at a time of an unprecedented wave of self-immolations by Tibetans inside Tibet. The Tibetan delegation also urged the Indian leaders to engage in urgent diplomatic actions aimed at pressuring the Chinese government on various fronts. The Indian leaders have "remained unequivocal in condemning the repressive Chinese policies and demonstrated solidarity with the peaceful resistance of Tibetans inside Tibet."
