Governor Lincoln Chafee to release version of fraud report today

Today at about 2:30 p.m. EST, Governor Lincoln Chafee will hold a press conference to discuss whether his administration will release the whole or a redacted so-called Block report. The Block report as it is called by various media outlets is a report that Ken Block submitted to the governor’s office after he was commission to investigate fraud in the social services.

History

Governor Lincoln Chafee announced Monday that he had commissioned Mr. Block’s report and that it showed evidence of waste and fraud in Rhode Island’s Medicaid and Food Stamp Programs. Mr. Chafee whilst admitting to the existence of the report, refused at the time to release the report to public. He claimed at the time that he did not want to jeopardize any future investigation.

Chafee causes controversy

The governor’s refusal to release the report caused uproar among the various Rhode Island media. Reacting to this uproar, Governor Chafee decided yesterday to hold the press conference which will occur in about less than an hour from now.

The report

The report raises several questions for the average Rhode Island tax payer. Some of these are:

  1. How long has the fraud been going on for?
  2. How much money has been wasted?
  3. What should Rhode Island do about?
  4. What will the governor do to make sure that it does not happen again?

The press conference will take place at the Rhode Island State house.
