Governor Nikki Haley speaks out on federal health care sign up

October 1, 2013, Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley says the sign up for federal health care ‘is a mess’. South Carolina is one of 36 states that opted not to run their own health care exchange. That means residents of South Carolina have to sign up through the federal government online site but citizens are having trouble getting on the site. The Columbia, South Carolina library system has computers available for those people that do not have access to computers of their own. Medicaid has set up two call centers to handle questions. Nationwide, residents will be fined if they do not sign up for the federal health care by December 2013 although they will have until March 2014 to comply.

Car crashes into Dollar General Wednesday Morning

Florence, South Carolina seems to have a penchant for driving into the front of businesses. Another incident occurred Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Police are investigating what caused a woman’s car to crash into the front of the Dollar General on Irby Street. No one was injured but the incident totaled a cash register and shelves of goods. Over the years there have been numerous such incidents in the city causing damage to stores that do not have curbs or protection from cars that are parked in front of the store. Putting up steel poles after the fact is good, but maybe these smaller businesses need to install them before opening for business.
