With Congress unable to agree on a spending bill, the US government shut down yesterday, October 1 with much fanfare. According to a flash poll released yesterday by Manta of over 1,000 small business owners, the majority expect the shutdown to negatively affect the economy - and nearly one-third lay the blame squarely at President Barack Obama's feet.
Manta's poll found that 62 percent of small business owners believe the economy will be negatively affected by the government shutdown, while 46 percent expect the shutdown to negatively impact their own businesses. However, 38 percent of the same small business owners were in favor of a shutdown.
Small business owners are ready to hand off some blame for the impasse, mostly to the Democrats: 12 percent of respondents blame Congressional Democrats, and 30 percent blame President Obama. Meanwhile, only 22 percent of small business owners blame Congressional Republicans, and 8 percent blame the Tea Party. Both parties also get scorched, as 24 percent blame both Democrats and Republicans for the government shutdown.
