Tom Corbett, the Republican Pennsylvania governor, appeared on a WHP-TV news show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday morning and compared the marriage of same-sex couples to the marriage of a sister and brother, according to Yahoo! News on Friday.
As one can assume, the comments by the governor were immediately chastised by advocates involved with the struggle to get gay marriage to become the law of the land in Pennsylvania.
Corbett made the comment when an interviewer asked him about a statement his lawyers have previously stated in a court filing which compared the marriage of gay persons to the marriage of children because neither can legally be married in Pennsylvania. Corbett said that comparing the marriage of a gay couple to the marriage of children was an inappropriate analogy because he believes a much better analogy would have been the marriage of a brother and sister.
Pennsylvania – which is the only state in the northeastern portion of the United States to not allow gay marriage or civil unions – is currently being challenged in state as well as federal courts.
