Gov. Jindal declares severe weather awareness week

On Sunday, March 3, Governor Bobby Jindal has declared that March 3 through March 9 would be Louisiana’s severe weather awareness week. The goal is to encourage Louisiana residents to review and update their plans on how to protect themselves and their property in the event of severe weather.

We are entering the severe weather season when tornadoes could spin up at a moments notice. The Governors Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness urges everyone to take the simple steps required to protect themselves and their families. If you do not yet have a plan, you can visit http://www.getagameplan.org for some assistance.

Putting a plan together could save lives. Everyone should have a plan in place and they should know when to evacuate to another location or when to shelter in place. Evacuation plans should be made in advance due to a number of incidences that can alter your situation. Always have alternate evacuation locations in your plan.

A NOAA Weather Radio and an emergency kit is a great way to get started. Some additional resources for valuable information are Weather.gov and Ready.gov
