Gov. Bobby Jindal is right: Republicans ARE stupid

Delivering the keynote address to the Republican National Committee's winter meeting in Charlotte, N.C., Louisana Gov. Bobby Jindal told his audience that the GOP has to "stop being the stupid party."

We have to ask: Would the GOP's apparent ease with allowing the Obama administration's decision to allow 7 million illegals to keep their non-farming payroll jobs while 20 million Americans can't find full-time work meet Gov. Jindal's definition of "stupid?" Why not attempt to show the world that the Republican Party is far more intelligent - not to mention compassionate - than the Democrats by asking why Congress is throwing unemployed Americans under the bus because its members see Hispanic voters as being far more critical to the future of this republic than putting Americans back to work?

The GOP long has been a supporter of the various amnesties for illegals and high immigration levels. And who benefitted from both? Certainly not American workers. So here is what we think Boehner & Co. should do: Tell Hispanic-Americans, whose unemployment rate is around 10 percent, that Republicans now see the error of their ways and want to do what is best for all American workers.

That means firmly opposing any "immigration reform" that allows the 7 million illegal aliens to keep their jobs and supporting sharply reduced legal immigration levels that only serve to depress wages and impede everybody's "search for a better life."

What's not to like about such a position? Mr. Jindal?
