Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be at City Honors School in Buffalo, N.Y. today to discuss New York State’s budget, in which the governor has proposed no new taxes, WIVB Channel 4 reported on Thursday, Feb. 21. The New York State budget is due April 1.
The governor will talk about the $1 billion promised to Buffalo, N.Y. for new job creation last January. At the time Gov. Andrew Cuomo said:
“I want to talk about what we’re going to be and what we're going to do, and where the new jobs are coming from, and how to keep my children here and my family here, so I can say your future’s in Buffalo (N.Y.). Don’t you dare think of going anywhere else.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is also expected to discuss the state of the state, but the conversation may turn to one of New York State’s hottest topics, the governor’s gun control legislation, known as the SAFE Act. It is not known if governor actually plans to discuss the new gun control laws, or if opponents to the SAFE act will be on hand to protest.
The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearm Enforcement, known as the NY SAFE Act, was passed by the New York State Legislature on January 15, 2013 and signed into law the same day by Gov. Cuomo. The NY SAFE Act contains some of the most restrictive firearm regulations in the United States. The NY SAFE Act was structured to include a severability provision, in case the broad prohibitions against weapons were to be invalidated by the courts.
