According to the Canadian Luge Association, Alex Gough of Calgary won a bronze medal on Friday at a World Cup women's luge competition in Park City, Utah.

Gough posted a time of 1:27.889 to get on to the podium. Germans Natalie Geisenberger and Anke Wischnewski finished in the gold medal and silver medal spots respectively. Geisenberger had a time of 1:27.628 and Wischnewski had a time of 1:27.821.

The Germans have been the luge powerhouse throughout Olympic and World Cup history in the sport of luge, but the Canadians led by Gough, have posted very respectable results with less than two months away from the start of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Gough, who is not only the leader of the Canadian mixed luge relay team, which will make its Olympic debut at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, is doing very well in women's luge right now as well. Prior to her bronze medal on Friday she had won a World Cup silver medal in Whistler, British Columbia and a World Cup bronze medal in Lillehammer, Norway.
