According to the Associated Press, Alex Gough of Calgary finished in third place on Friday in a World Cup women's luge event in Lake Placid, New York.
Gough finished with a time of 1:28.748 to beat Anke Wischnewski of Germany by 0.63 seconds for a podium finish.
German Natalie Geisenberger won the World Cup race with a time of 1:28.440 followed by American Julia Clukey in second place with a time of 1:28.735.
With the win, Geisenberger won the women's World Cup overall luge title. While Clukey finished on the podium for the very first time in her luge career.
The 2012-13 women's World Cup luge season finishes in two weeks from now when the best women's lugers in the world will compete in Sochi, Russia. The race is very significant as the lugers will be able to test the Olympic track one year before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
