“Less talk, more rock” - WILDSTREET
A lot of bands promise to bring back the sound of the eighties, but few accomplish this feat as well as Wildstreet.
Wildstreet is a New York City band that consists of Eric Jayk (vocals, guitar), Ian MacPherson (guitar), Aaron Joos (guitar), and Ali Hassan (bass). A self-proclaimed sex-fueled rock n’ roll explosion, their live performances have become legendary, especially their many Rocklahoma shows. How did the band get their name? Well as Jayk states, “That’s a funny story, actually Ali and I were in a magazine store and we both reached for the same porno, and we both said Wild Street.”
Their debut album, the self-titled Wildstreet, includes both heavy rock songs as well as the eighties staple, power ballads. Singles “Wanna Get It On” and “Hard On You” encourage fist pumping and bad decisions while “For So Long” shows that softer side we all love (or need?) from our rock stars. Despite their high-on-glam look their music has more grooves and melody; probably closer to L.A. Guns then Hanoi Rocks.
The release of their second album, Wildstreet II:…Faster…Louder, have produced several hits including straight up rockers “Shake It” and “Glory Daze” as well as sleazy guitar driven tracks “Cocked & Ready” and “Poison Kiss.” Their music has been picked up by TV networks as well, both TBS and E! play several tracks from their second album.
If you pick one song from Wildstreet to start off with I would suggest “Poison Kiss”, the song is about a vampire giving their victim one last chance before turning them into a vampire. Of course, if you don’t like vampires, pick something else please! For fans of eighties arena rock, there really is something for everyone here.
