One common present given around the holiday season is the gift card. Some Wii owners might be wondering what they could purchase with any gift card this year, and this list of five games aims to help determine what one can buy.

Seeing as one of the most common gift card denominations is $25, all the games on this list cost $25 or less.

House of the Dead: Overkill
Cost: $20

There’s no kill like Overkill. House of the Dead: Overkill is the latest entry in the House of the Dead series, naturally. This light gun/zapper game is violent, over-the-top, full of colorful language and a lot of fun. By full of colorful language, I mean that it holds a world record: The Guinness World Records recognizes it as having the most profanity in any game ever, citing 189 uses of the f-bomb. That represents 3 percent of the game’s dialogue.

Ignoring that, those looking for some quick, dirty fun should check out this game and get ready to blast zombies and all sorts of creepy creatures.

Deadly Creatures

Cost: $20

In Deadly Creatures, you play as a tarantula and a scorpion. They don’t talk, they don’t collect rings or coins, they don’t like to party or anything of that nature. They are, as the game’s name implies, Deadly Creatures. They aren’t the game’s only deadly creatures- you battle rattlesnakes, rats, horned lizards and more.

Perhaps the best thing about this game is the creepy atmosphere created by the graphics and soundtracks. Obviously, you don’t feel like an arachnid while playing, but when you get into fights with other creatures, it feels intense and satisfying when your stinger stabs into the head of an albino rat.

Wii Zapper with Link’s Crossbow Training

Cost: $25

Link’s Crossbow Training is bundled with the Wii Zapper. It is a solid game, and a good use of the Zapper’s capabilities. It isn’t perfect, but it plays well and striving for the high score is always fun.

The game takes you all over the Twilight Princess universe, and you shoot targets and a wide variety of enemies. It can be good, fast-paced fun.

Trauma Center: New Blood

Cost: $20

This game will frustrate you. This game might make you throw your controller in anger. This is one of those truly challenging games. The Trauma Center series as a whole is tough, but New Blood is very difficulty, even when you are working with a partner in the game’s multiplayer mode.

It takes what was presented in Trauma Center: Second Opinion, and expands on it. It is a familiar game for fans of the series, but due to its difficulty level, will not disappoint. If you are new to the Trauma Center series, it might be better to start with Second Opinion, and then graduate onto this one- this is just a harder game.

Sam and Max: Season One

Cost: $15-$20

Sam & Max: Season One might have helped revive adventure games. It certainly put Telltale Games on the map, who have since developed a second season of Sam & Max (which is also coming to the Wii), Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures and Tales of Monkey Island.

Sam & Max: Season One is an excellent revival of the franchise, full of good puzzles, funny dialogue, running gags, Abraham Lincoln’s head and so much more. Adventure game fans should check this out, and those looking for a fun and funny experience might also enjoy Sam and Max’s first 3D outing.
