According to Dan Buettner, “This [a Blue Zone] is a part of the world geographically defined, demographically confirmed, where people are living 8 to 10 years longer than we are. They are avoiding the diseases that kill us—heart disease and cancer.
They have what we want—they live a long time, die quickly in their sleep and occasionally after sex,” says Dan Buettner. Source
Now, according to Dr. Oz, Dan Buettner has found a new Blue Zone in the tiny Greek island Ikaria located in the Aegean Sea where the people living there have low rates of heart disease and cancer, and are three times more likely than people in the U.S. to reach the age of 90.
The secret anti-aging Blue Zone food of the people of Ikaria? Goat’s milk. Ikarians drink goat’s milk every day. In order for it to “work” it has to be consumed routinely and for a long period of time, which is not defined.
What’s amazing about goat’s milk is that it is very high in potassium and calcium and it has a “happy hormone” called “Tryptophan,” says Dan Buettner as he further explains that not only is goat’s milk associated with living longer, but is also a healthy substitute for sleeping pills for people faced with insomnia. Turkey has this in it, which is why people joke not to bring turkey sandwiches to work for lunch.
The recommended daily dose of goat’s milk is four ounces every day and has to be taken on a regular basis. For people who are lactose intolerant most can handle goat milk without any problems unlike the gastrointestinal problems they face drinking cow milk. source
