Gospel Industry still abuzz from the 2014 Stellar Awards weekend

Gospel Music's "who's who" and up-and-coming artists strutted the red carpet and paid homage to living legends with phenomenal performances. The weekend was packed with official and unofficial Stellar Awards events. Nashville was the place to be for some good ol' Gospel Music.

Social media lit up with photos and tweets with the inside scoop. Artists and fans alike expressing their excitement. Central City Productions even gave everyone a backstage pass to view the behind the scene activities via LiveStream, and other media affiliates, hosted by Tye Tribbett, Chicago's own Gospel Radio 1390AM Program Director, Sonya Blakey, and others.

It was amazing to see the up-and-coming artists perform on the same stage as their seasoned industry colleagues. The annual BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon hosted by Erica Campbell and Donnie McClurkin honored legendary Gospel Artists Richard Smallwood and Daryl Coley. Arousing performances by Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper and sister Timiney Figueroa-Caton singing one of Richard Smallwood's classic songs "Angels", Beverly Crawford put her signature vocals on Daryl Coley's classic hit song "I Can't Tell It", Yolanda Adams' rendition of Richard Smallwood's other classic song "I Love The Lord", which was made famous by the late Whitney Houston in the Preacher's Wife movie, and so many other performances.

Chicago Gospel Artists represented well throughout the whole weekend. Donald Buster Woods hosted the event "Chicago On Stage" showcasing some of Chicago's best singers. Donald Lawrence & Company accompanied the performances at the BMI Trailblazers Luncheon under the direction of DeWayne Woods. One of the greatest honors is to grace the stage of the Stellar Awards and Chicago was made very proud by newcomer Jonathan McReynolds singing his hit single "No Gray". Ricky Dillard & New G closed out the program with their new single "Amazing".

The weekend of The Stellars is always exciting and this past weekend was nothing short of amazing. As eventful as it may have been there were unfortunate situations that arose causing everyone to go into prayer mode. Donnie McClurkin became ill during the BMI event and Tasha Cobbs' Dad passed suddenly. Thank God that Donnie McClurkin was able to attend the live taping of The Stellars and Tasha Cobbs' Dad was able to share in her joy. We will continue to keep them both in prayer. Even when we don't know or understand why things happen. God knows and understands all things.
