The highlights keep coming for Georgia native Tasha Cobbs as she accepted her first Grammy last night. The neophyte artist dedicated her win of the Best Gospel/CCM Performance Grammy to her father whom she laid to rest last week.
Other winners of the night for Gospel and Christian music included Tye Tribbett and Mandisa. Tribbett took home two Grammy’s and served as a presenter during the pre-show where the Gospel and Christian music awards are awarded.
The show aired on CBS and was full of collaborative performances. It opened up with a performance by Beyonce and her husband Jay Z of her hit tune “Drunk in Love” the couple’s chemistry was on full display during the performance…a rarity for the very private duo. There was a great performance by Stevie Wonder, Niles Rogers, Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk performing the hit of the year “Get Lucky” as well as Wonder’s “For You” and Rogers “Freak Out” it was a perfect blend of beats and nostalgia.
Daft Punk were big winners taking home the coveted Album of the Year and Record of the Year Grammys. Song of the Year went to Lorde’s Royals written by Joel Little & Ella Yelich O’Connor. Best New Artist went to another hot winner for the night and that was none other than Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. They also received nods for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Thrift Shop.” Four awards in one night was too much for Macklemore who posted on Instagram to Kendrick Lamar “I wanted you to win.”
