Gosling's Family Reserve Old Rum is a delightful variation on the standard Gosling's Black Seal rum from Bermuda.

For generations, this private reserve was distributed only to family members and close friends, presented in a champagne bottle of dark green frosted glass sealed in black wax, with a unique hand-written number on the label. The bottle, bearing the family seal, is encased in a straw-filled wooden box with a clear glass front suggesting a fitting gift package.
The rich, dark, full-flavored aged rum is matured in oak barrels until the peak of perfection, producing a full-bodied very dark mahogany color. The nose suggests bananas foster on cedar plank with a luscious bouquet of caramel, burnt sugar, molasses and spices. The palette reveals plenty of oak, dried figs and prunes with buttery richness that is not nearly as sweet as the nose suggests. The finish is mellow, warm and long lasting.
Gosling's Brothers Ltd. Is Bermuda's oldest business house. In 1806, Englishman William Gosling, sent his son James to sea on the good ship Mercury, bound for Virginia with 10,000 pounds Sterling worth of wines and spirits. After ninety days on becalmed seas, the charter ran out and James was diverted to the port of St. Georges, Bermuda, where he opened a wine and spirits shop on King's Parade. By 1860 he had developed his signature full-flavored rum, a favorite among sailors. Today, Malcolm Gosling is the seventh generation of the family to lead the company.
The famously trademarked cocktail known as the Dark And Story is made from ginger beer and Gosling's rum. Gosling's also produces the famous Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum, Gosling's Gold Bermuda Rum and a similar overproof 151 dark rum. The family has recently branched out into other areas, adding their brand to Gosling's Stormy Ginger Beer and numerous gourmet items.
