DC rapper Gorilla Slim could be the next artist to blow up from the nation's capital. Slim, who is originally from Jamaica, describes his style as aggressive yet passionate. After arriving in the US, he immediately fell in love with hip-hop music - especially the hardcore street-oriented rappers like Biggie, 50 Cent, and Master P.
Gorilla Slim is already on the fast track to music industry success. He recently signed a deal with 780 Management, and he's previously worked with major label artists such as 2Chainz, Red Cafe, and Cory Gunz.
Gorilla Slim's ultimate goal is to become a sucessful businessman and artist (see: Hov). He owns a thriving recording studio. Local stars Garvey Da Chosen One and Raheem DeVaughn are a couple of notable clients. But Gorilla Slim's main objective and his most important endeavor is being the hottest young rapper in the DMV.
ST: Let everyone know who you are, where you're from, and what crew you're repping.
GS: I'm known as Gorilla Slim and I'm originally from Jamaica. I rep #DroBoiz and #GorillaGang.
ST: How long have you been involved with the rap game?
GS: I've been involved with music since 2005. I became interested in the music game back in Jamaica where I started with Reggae. After I moved to the United States and I began listening to incredible artists like Biggie Smalls, 50 Cent, and Master P, I converted to hip-hop.
ST: What local rappers are you looking forward to collaborating with?
GS: I've already collaborated with Garvey, Phil Da Phuture, and Shy Glizzy. I would like to work with Boobe, Fat Trel, Lola Monroe, and Black Cobain.
ST: What projects do you have on tap for spring/summer 2013?
GS: Right now I'm in the studio recording my debut CD, and also a DroBoiz street album. I expect both of these projects will be released by the end of the summer.
ST: Do you have any music currently available?
GS: Right now you can check out my first single entitled "All or Nothing" on SoundCloud.com. Later this month I'm dropping another track ("Tattoo") that will also be available on SoundCloud.com. To hear other music I've done log on to YouTube.com and search TmobbMusic or Gorilla Slim.
ST: Where can people see you perform live?
GS: I have two shows coming up. This month I will be performing on Easter Sunday (March 31st) with Stalley (Maybach Music Group) and TCB at Fur Night Club (33 Patterson Street, NE). And next month, April 20th, catch me at Love Night Club (1350 Okie Street, NE) with Shy Glizzy.
ST: Thank you for your time with this interview. Before we go, give me the requisite social media roll call.
GS: No problem, you can stay updated about all my shows and upcoming events by following me and my management on Twitter: @TmobbGorilla, @JuicyPorsha, @780Management, @TeamGorillaSlim; on InstaGram: Gorilla_Slim, Juiccy_Porshaa; and on Facebook: Tmobb GorillaSlim, Juiccy Porshaa.
