Gorgeous weather returns

High pressure has made a return to the Ohio Valley today and is bringing another taste of spring! The clear skies and calm winds did lead to a chilly start however. We saw lows dipping down into the upper 30s this morning! You may want to keep the light jacket around this evening with temperatures starting in the lower 60s but ending up in the upper 40s by 11 p.m.

Lows will moderate a few degrees tonight but it will still be quite chilly. Expect a temperature in the lower 40s in Columbus out the door on Monday but some outlying areas could dip to as low as 38 or 39 degrees once again.

More sunshine is anticipated for the first day of the work week as an upper level ridge in the jet stream builds into the region. This ridge will provide warming conditions and dry weather. Highs on Monday are expected to reach the middle 70s and then near 80 degrees by Tuesday.

At the surface, a warm front will be crossing the region on Tuesday which could pop an isolated storm or two. The best chance will remain north of Columbus and it looks like most locations will not get hit due to the lack of upper level disturbances along the front.

The only bad weather this week is currently forecast for Wednesday when a cold front slowly sags south through Ohio. A combination of warmth, moisture, and lift from the cold front will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms. Depending on the timing of the front, isolated severe weather may be possible with the main threat being strong wind gusts and small hail. Stay with Examiner for the latest updates on the risk for storms.

Behind that cool front, a stray shower cannot be ruled out yet for Thursday. It will turn notably cooler but still fairly seasonal for the end of the week. Highs will head for the lower 70s with lows in the 50s. That is nearly perfect weather! This will all be thanks to a stubborn upper level low over New England that will cause a block (or traffic jam) in the jet stream. Ohio may get stuck under high pressure for several days (shucks!). Some moisture from that upper low may get close to eastern Ohio on Friday and Saturday but the chance for isolated showers was left out of the forecast for now. Have a great day!
