Gorgeous and gracious Grand Del Mar scores three Forbes Five-Star awards (Photos)

It comes as little surprise that the gracious Grand Del Mar, San Diego’s crown jewel of hotels, has won three Forbes Five-Star awards once again. Just on the heels of its five-year anniversary, the hotel was presented the achievements for categories in lodging, spa and its signature restaurant, Addison.

Among an elite group of high-end resorts and hotels, upscale property is the only hotel in San Diego, and one of just six hotels in the country to receive three Five-Star designations from Forbes in 2013. The others include Montage Laguna Beach, Calif.; The Broadmoor, Colo.; Mandarin Oriental, Miami; The Cloister, Georgia; and the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas. Additionally, The Grand Del Mar is the only hotel in San Diego to ever achieve Five-Star status.

This will be the second year that The Grand Del Mar has attained Five-Stars for Lodging; the third year that The Spa at The Grand Del Mar – a 21,000-square-foot, Renaissance-inspired resort showpiece – has received Five-Stars. It is also the fifth year that its acclaimed signature dining venue, Addison, has earned the highly sought after designation. There are presently 58 hotels, 23 spas and 28 restaurants in the U.S. with Five-Star ratings. And that’s not all. The hotel also kept its AAA Five Diamond rating for the fourth straight year, while Addison earned the AAA Five Diamond distinction for the fifth consecutive year.

The resort, which celebrated its five-year anniversary in October 2012, has earned dozens of awards – but the trio of Forbes Five-Star accolades and the AAA Five Diamond status represent the pinnacle of its success. “Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond rankings set the industry standard, and earning them year after year firmly establishes us as a top world-class destination,” said Tom Voss, president of The Grand Del Mar. “We are immensely proud to achieve these designations and credit much of our success to our extraordinarily gracious and hardworking staff, who take true pleasure in providing top-notch service.”

A popular getaway for Angelenos, the 259-room Grand Del Mar provides a classic, but relaxed atmosphere with seamless service and gorgeous appointments, not to mention a location set amid a spectacular private preserve in Coastal North San Diego County. Golfers flock there to play on San Diego’s only Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course while pamper seekers hit the blissful Renaissance-inspired spa, and foodies dive into the exceptional regional cuisine of Chef William Bradley at Addison Restaurant. Other amenities include four swimming pools; two outdoor tennis courts; an enclave of residential Villas; and more than 20,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space.
