Al Gore and Aimee Semple McPherson are mirrors each of the other. Both created a religious movement, and both behaved completely differently in their private lives than they advocated for others.
McPherson’s Foursquare Gospel Church is still extant, and for all I know they are still exhibiting glossalalia (speaking in tongues), “laying on of hands” and intermittent epileptic seizures, just as they did when my mother, one of Aimee’s “lay ministers” used to keep me immersed in their services, camps, summer schools, and so on. My grown-up distaste for religion stems from that irrationality and from seeing the abject betrayal my paralyzed and mute mother felt when she realized that organized faith healing is total fraud. Oral Roberts used to keep a separate, sequestered tent and entrance to his giant-tent “revivals” for severely ill supplicants, who, of course, received nothing but a “friendly” pat or hug from the money-sucking fraud, and then were whisked away, as ill as ever, while subordinate “pastors” kept the paying crowd occupied in the main tent.
Gore, frustrated by a fortunate (for our country) failed presidential bid, and in need of fame and fortune, perpetuated the myth of Man Caused Global Warming (MCGW) after the pattern of the revivalist, fundamentalist, evangelical movement. He used his famous, graphically fraudulent, “Inconvenient Truth” propaganda film as his initial tool, grew a following of the credulous, pulled in governmental dollars to fund various schemes, created crony capitalism niches for his investments, and became an even wealthier multi-millionaire off tax dollars. This was essentially the same mechanism as the camp preachers used to batten off the socially vulnerable, and the same as the KKK used, via the theologically dumbed-down white evangelical churches, to spread their evil nationwide last century. It is a winning ploy. There are always more ignorant and uncritical folks about than there are learned and critical minds. Of course Gore was recruiting among the followers of Erlich, the Malthusian guru of the anti-industrial and anti-human movement, among his own reflexive followers in the Democratic party, and from the “environmentally” conditioned minds of the young and publically schooled.
Atmospheric carbon rise is about eight hundred years behind warming trends, and the idea of it being the causative factor in planetary climate change is specious at best. Mankind’s contribution to greenhouse gases, once you factor out water vapor, is less than a half a percentage point. Reputable scientists have been protesting the essentially religious, anti-rational MCGW nonsense for years. They’ve gone largely unheard; no one debates them on the figures, on the ice cores, or the solar record, or the degraded temperature-sensing stations that are now largely in urban environments. Too many politicians, joining Gore’s tent campaign fraud, seeking funding or control, have advocated “cap and trade”, or are using the MCGW scam to advocate for wealth redistribution to the third world, or for UN control of channeling funds and regulating the productive.
There is no doubt whatsoever that pollution of the atmosphere is bad. However, most occurs absent man. The vegetation in the American West and Southwest has evolved to burn off periodically; similarly the forests of Indonesia. Man may currently be the initiating spark quite often, but those natural clearance operations have been proceeding regularly for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years. Similarly, volcanic action. But just as the people running the religion shell game say anything that happens is “God’s Will,” despite prayers for other eventualities, in Gore’s church, anything untoward: record snowfalls, hurricanes, droughts, are now attributed to “climate change,” the phrase the revival tent schills have adopted whilst largely abandoning “global warming.” Now it is man-caused climate change. MCCC; reminiscent, chillingly, of the abbreviation of the old Soviet Socialist Republics, CCCP.
Why am I going into this fakery in a Sacramento Examiner column? Because in an initial and quite dangerous thrust, our democratic governor and his majority (now supermajority and unopposable) democratic legislature have put the blade of cap and trade into the chest of California’s already wounded economy. I want to caution you to observe and resist as they wiggle the hilt.
And to round out my mirror-image initial statement, note that Gore and his fellow investors just sold their failing T.V. Network for so very much that Gore’s take is 500 million dollars, and will be around 300 million dollars after taxes. They sold it to Al Jazeera, which is owned by the biggest petrochemical magnate on the planet, the Emir of Qatar. Hypocrisy unmatched except perhaps by the sexual behavior of Aimee Semple McPherson whilst preaching celibacy. (You might look up the movie Elmer Gantry, for a dramatization of that story.)
I find more reasons to be a Grumpy Libertarian daily. If you are paying attention, you probably do too.
