“No celebrity chef required;” states a cheese commercial featuring Gordon Ramsay. The loud-mouthed chef is featured in a new Perfect Italiano commercial where he performs menial household tasks. The Australian media website, mUmBRELLA published clips of the commercial on Feb. 13, 2013.
Fonterra’s Perfect Italiano shredded cheese has the slogan “No celebrity chef required” on all of its packaging. The ads feature renowned chef Gordon Ramsay showing up to offer his services to a busy mom.
In the ad, Ramsay is dressed in his chef whites and it is implied that he expects to offer his culinary expertise to the mom. However, the lady of the house has other plans for the celebrity chef. Instead of showing off his mastery in the kitchen, Chef Ramsay is mowing the lawn, washing the dog, and ends the commercial in the kitchen—washing dishes.
Two versions of the commercial will air in Australia; a 30 second spot and a 15 second spot. You can see the complete 30 second commercial on YouTube.
This is a different role for Gordon Ramsay. TV ads featuring the chef are usually self-promoting--for one of his TV shows, books or restaurants. Now, Ramsay can add acting in a non-reality TV role to his resume.
