GOP Rep. Stockman considering articles of impeachment against Obama

After walking out of the State of the Union speech, Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, said he was considering articles of impeachment against President Obama for promising to overstep his Constitutional authority, The Blaze reported Wednesday.

Stockman made the announcement on a website supporting his 2014 Senate run.

"Obama defiantly vowed not only to radically expand the reach of government from cradle to grave, but to smash the Constitution’s restrictions on government power while doing it," he said. "His goal is to eliminate our constitutional republic."

During Tuesday's State of the Union, Obama said he would use his executive power to bypass Congress "wherever and whenever" he can. In speeches following the State of the Union, Obama has reiterated his vow to rule by executive fiat if necessary.

Stockman reminded readers he threatened impeachment last year. In Jan 2013, the Texas Republican said he would file articles of impeachment if Obama used executive orders to enact gun control measures.

Now, he says America is "running out of options."

In his "Citizens Petition to Impeach Barack Obama," Stockman accuses Obama of declaring war on the Constitution and says his "continued defiance of the Constitution and lawless behavior has left Congress with few options."

He also says Congress "will not agree to impeach Obama unless millions of Americans demand it."

A number of representatives from both major parties have either called for or threatened to file articles of impeachment against Obama for a wide variety of reasons. Nothing so far has been filed, but even if Obama were impeached in the House, he would certainly not be convicted or removed from office by a Democratic-controlled Senate.

After walking out of the State of the Union, Stockman said he "could not bear to watch as he continued to cross the clearly-defined boundaries of the Constitutional separation of powers.”

“Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed in the tone and content of tonight’s address,” he added.
