GOP Rep: Enough votes to impeach Obama for 'ignoring the Constitution'

"He doesn't have the constitutional authority to do that..."

Undoubtedly on the minds of more than a few conservatives, a Pennsylvania congressman stated very matter-of-factly that there is not only a better than even chance there are enough votes to impeach Barack Obama, there's also a slew of offensive to choose from. As reported by the Republican Herald of Pottsville, Pa. on June 18, 2014, and also the hard left-leaning MSNBC on June 17, 2014, Republican Rep. Lou Barletta admitted in a radio interview that there is "probably" enough House votes to impeach Barack Obama.

On WSBA's (of York, Pa.) "The Gary Sutton Show," the 11th Congressional District's Representative made clear that he may not personally be in favor of the Lower Chamber of Congress moving forward with the initial process of removing Obama from office, but there are likely more than enough votes to impeach. "I was actually dismissing the idea for those who (say) ... 'Why don't we do something, why don't impeach the president?'" the second term congressman stated live on the air.

Yet Barletta also admitted that if the majority of the American didn't support the move, neither would he. "And I ran through the litany of the process, could it pass the House? Maybe, probably. Would it be accepted by the American people? Probably not. I wasn't proposing it and I'm not advocating it."

However soft Barletta may have been on on the impeachment process itself, he did rattle off a litany of what he believes are legitimate charges that could successfully be levied against the Chief Executive. The former mayor of Hazleton, Pa. claims Obama "violated the Constitution by repeatedly extending deadlines for individuals and businesses to comply with the Affordable Care Act, known commonly as Obamacare. 'Once it was passed by Congress, it was a law and only Congress can change the law,'" he said.

In a nutshell, Barletta plainly claimed "He’s just absolutely ignoring the Constitution, and ignoring the laws, and ignoring the checks and balances."

He also hammered Obama for failing to give the mandatory 30 day notification to Congress prior to "the exchange of Taliban-held prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban members held as enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay." Not quite done yet, Barletta also made note that Obama has issued a presidential directive to block enforcement of pertinent immigration laws regarding the illegal immigrants under 16-years-old, "He doesn't have the constitutional authority to do that.

If and when impeachment passes the House of Representatives, it would then be the responsibility of the Senate to convict with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presiding. Inside the DC Beltway, the smart money is on the GOP being in a holding pattern to move forward on removing Obama until after the 2014 elections when the Republicans have the best chance in years of taking the majority in the Senate.
