The U.S. Capitol was shut down in Washington, D.C. Thursday afternoon after a report of gunfire.

Following confirmation of shots fired that included a police officer being injured, the U.S. Capitol was shut down and put on temporary lock down. While most were hoping for the best, one Republican representative decided to blame President Obama as well as Rep. Nancy Pelsi and Sen. Chuck Schumer.

At 2:23pm, Rep. Tim Griffin (R-AR) took to his twitter account, @TimGriffinAR2, to tweet that he heard "gun shots outside the Capital." Just two minutes later, Griffin put the blame directly at the doorstep of President Obama and congressional Democrats.

“Stop the violent rhetoric President Obama, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. #Disgusting”

The Raw Story points out that nearly a half hour later, Griffen walked back his tweet after dealing with much backlash, but the damage was already done.

“The shooting today is a terrible and inexcusable tragedy and an act of terroism...No one but the shooter is to blame. I tweeted out of emotion but agree that the timing was not helpful.”

Rep. Griffen and his toxic tweets represent everything that is wrong with Washington today. The American people are getting tired of political blame games, constant finger pointing and arguing. Congress needs to get their act together and work out their problems like the adults they were voted to be. With Republican representatives like Rep. Griffen tweeting with "emotion" instead of logic, progress might be further away than we thought.
