Senator John McCain continued on his antagonistic campaign today grilling Sec. of State Hilary Clinton as if she was a war criminal. The implication that she (Clinton), Susan Rice and President Obama intentionally misled the country regarding the Benghazi attacks is ludicrous.
"In a hearing marked by sometimes sharp and pointed exchanges, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee she took responsibility for not adequately protecting U.S. personnel in the Sept. 11 attack on a diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans."
McCain along with Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz) insinuated that there was a conspiracy to be deceptive about the motive of the attacks is clearly the usual "blame game tactics" that the GOP frequently utilizes.
Sec. Clinton's response..."she angrily told Johnson that at this stage it did not really matter what the precise origins or motives of the attack were: “What difference at this point does it make?" It is illogical for anyone to assume we can be certain of the motive of any terrorist attack especially within a matter of hours or even days after such an unfortunate incident.
“There are many questions that are unanswered and the answers you’ve given this morning are frankly not satisfactory to me,” McCain told Clinton. He added “the American people and the families of these four brave Americans still haven’t gotten the answers they deserve.”
The fact is that there will always be "unanswered" questions when any individual or terrorist group decide to murder innocent people. Demanding that a representative of the U.S. gov't explain someone else's motive would probably be inaccurate and more than likely would just be an assumption without any verifiable information.
What these Senators who were so adamant in seeking complete explanations failed to see is that any crisis regarding terrorism takes time to investigate. Expecting answers within hours, weeks or even months can be unreasonable when it involves international terrorists. Isn't it better to take the time needed to do a thorough investigation?
Case in point...although Susan Rice was given an immediate response regarding Benghazi by the CIA...it was later deemed deceptive and inaccurate. Subsequently, this led to Dr. Rice declining the nomination to become the next Secretary of State even though she was well qualified.
It is quite obvious that anyone who could have prevented this tragedy would have done so without hesitation.
