This Saturday will mark a very important part of the convention cycle, as County Conventions for the Georgia Republican Party will be held at 10:00 AM on March 9, 2013 all across the state to determine local leadership for the next two years.
Various county officer positions such as Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and others will be elected at these County Conventions. In addition to electing local officers, those at the County Convention will elect delegates and alternates to the District and State Conventions.
Counties with over 80,000 residents held mass precinct meetings in February to select leadership at the state House district level. Those counties, as well as smaller ones, will all hold conventions this Saturday to select leadership at the county level.
Some counties are offering online registration for the county convention, but most are doing walk-up registration. The larger counties, such as Cobb or Fulton, have been interviewing possible attendees for the county convention to determine delegate listings for the aforementioned district and state conventions.

The convention cycle will wrap up on May 17-18 in Athens at the state convention, where a new state GOP chairman will be selected. Current chair Sue Everhart is retiring after three terms in the role.
District conventions will take place on April 20, 2013.
