Google Winter Wonderlab gives Topanga Mall shoppers a taste of snow

The Westfield Topanga Mall has something special for the technophile Christmas shoppers this year. Google has selected it as one of six locations in the country to install a life-size snow globe that has YOU in the center! Not only that, but you can create, edit and share a very cool high-definition video of your experience inside. Your adventure begins with a Snowpass card containing an embedded chip. A friendly Google WonderLab individual then checks in your party and you go to town selecting your winter apparel. Once you’re dressed appropriately, the snow starts to fly. Before you can say “I have frostbite on my little toe!” a high-def camera has whirred around capturing a ½ second slow-motion burst of SoCal winter bewilderment.
After you’ve warmed yourself, you can then edit the video, select a soundtrack and upload the cinematic masterpiece from any of the Google Nexus tablets on display.
The nearly 1GB video file is then speedily transported via satellite to the North Pole where little elves post the video to a social site of your choosing.
Following Microsoft’s retail store success at the Westfield Century City location, this interactive Winter Wonderlab is Google’s smart way of getting you to play with a Nexus 7 tablet or Chromebook laptop and check out the new Google Chromecast device. You’ll have to buy one online, however, as they do not have any of the units for sale. While you’re at it, remember that a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is on this writer’s wish list.
