Google takes on Amazon in online retail

As Google continues its assault on everything internet it next turns to Amazon.com and the world of Internet retailing.

According to published reports in the Wall Street Journal, Google is currently talking to some major retailers to partner with them in a proposed online shopping service.  Google is looking to compete with the Amazon Prime program, which offers fast shipping from various retailers for a flat fee of $79 per year.

Google would not be selling directly to the consumers, but with use the power of the Google search engine to find products, and connect consumers to the products, with Google running the shipping service that would deliver the products.

Google hopes to use consumers shopping as another way to maintain its dominance as the number one destination and search engine on the internet.  As people use Google to shop, Google gets revenue from ads about products related to your search as you are shopping.
