Yes, according to the headlines, Google Reader is dying and will be gone from us during the summer.
ZDNet asks the question many are asking, "Who will pick up RSS now that Google Reader is going bye-bye?"
Many enjoy using Google Reader to catch favorite articles, authors, and Google Alerts. Many are probably looking for alternatives right now. Even if Google changes their mind, it would seem that there is not a lot of interest in retaining the popular reader and it would only be a matter of time before GR gets put on the butcher block again. It is easier to let it die the first time.
It seems this isn't really the first time, as 2011 brought info on the demise of Google Reader, and it was only a matter of time before it would take its last breath. CNET tells us the story in "Google closes the book on reader, announces July 1 sunset."
CNET tells us not to worry, as it provides "five worthy alternatives." Is it any small wonder that this would be the time for the RSS competitors to come forward and seize that market share? It may not seem like a large market share, but there are always a couple bucks worth of advertising to be had.
Got your own concept for an RSS reader? Now is the time to get it out there and replace the Google Reader Giant that has been slain.
