Glass, the next big innovation in mobile computing has been highly anticipated since Google began showing the devices off last year. Its been much speculated about and many are wondering if it is really the next breakthrough or if it will be a very expensive failure.
For those of you not keeping up on the news, here's a little info on Glass.
Glass is essentially a wearable interactive screen in the form of eyeglasses. Google's website shows the device being voice controlled to take photos and videos with the mounted camera as well as display GPS navigation, conduct google searches, and even video chat.
Today Google announced a model of the device for use with prescription lenses, essentially making Glass universal for all users.
Still, the question of whether wearable tech will take off is up in the air. There is a strong desire for it, but a smart watch or belt is certainly less intrusive than something you have to put on your face. Either Glass will be a fashion sensation for people to say 'look at me and my fancy gadget' or it will be simply too unsightly for people to brave public use which will lead to high sales come release date, but poor longevity with minimal use.
Ultimately, success is expected in this market, even if it takes a few updates to made the hardware a bit more sleek. There is definitely something to be said for moving away from the typical screen and making computing a more biological idea. A slow start is not likely to hinder Google from their most expensive project yet.
