Google has extended a unique offer to its army of developers and early adopters, called explorers, who work on applications for the eyewearable device known as Glass. Explorers have a one-time option to upgrade their Glass and even opt for a different color if they are bored or disappointed with their initial color selection.
In its statement, Google said, "We’ll be offering a one-time optional swap out for Explorers who purchased their device before October 28, 2013. The Explorer Program is designed for people who want to shape the future of Glass. We are always improving the software based on Explorers’ feedback, and this time, we’ve made some improvements to the hardware."
In a Google Plus memo to Explorers, Google acknowledged hardware improvements to the device that enable Glass to work with future lines of shades and prescription frames. Google is also offering a monaural earbud with the upgrade. And Explorers will have the opportunity to invite three friends to join the program.
"They’ll be able to buy Glass online and can have it shipped to their home, office, treehouse or igloo. We’re counting on you to get Glass to the people you think will make great Explorers," said Google. "More Explorers means more feedback, and more feedback means better Glass. Explorers, stay tuned for more details – we’ll be emailing you soon!"
