Google Glass changing the culture of technology

Life today is quite different from life just ten years ago, not to mention twenty or thirty years ago. Those space-age gadgets on science fiction programming have almost completely moved out of the fiction realm and into reality. Tiny gadgets stuck in the ear will allow you to talk to someone, not just in your neighborhood, but in another country halfway around the world. Handheld tablets are used for reading, visiting face-to-face with multiple people, and to fill out and share a variety of forms. The technological advances available to us today have made their way into just about every facet of our culture.

Technology on Your Face

In fact, one of these new advances will soon be made available to the users of eye glasses. You might wonder how technology can be combined with glasses in exciting ways. After all, eye glasses have long been a symbol of average, quiet, or anonymity (think Clark Kent). However, Google Glass technology has the capacity to completely take eye glasses to a whole new level of super.

Technology Everywhere You Go

The creators of Google Glass have given users the ability to take their computer right off of their desktop and out of their pockets and placed it right in their line of sight. Now many of the apps and features that you enjoy so much on your smartphone can be available to you with simple voice commands and the convenience of hands-free operation.

This isn’t the only way that advancing technology has made into in our hearts and lives, however. Google Glass offers apps and programming which can carry the technology and the Google Glass name into some surprisingly personal areas of daily. An important quality of this surprise is that those who come to use the technology will be more than glad to have these apps available.

Practical Education Brought to Life

One great example of a Google Glass app which brings ongoing education to the mind and the fingertips is the SMARTSign app which teaches American Sign Language to the user. The app will provide the user with ongoing quizzes during the day. These quizzes will involve the recognition of signs and the ability to accurately produce the sign. Try to record yourself making signs with the use of a smartphone. It won’t be nearly as convenient as recording your motions as you see them with the hands-free camera integrated to the teaching programming. This technology promises to be a very valuable tool especially for parents of children with hearing impairments.

New Sights and Opportunities Discovered during Travels

Have you ever dreamed of visiting new countries? Exploring lands where you don’t know how to speak the language? Giving in to an impulse and heading out to enjoy a spontaneous adventure?

Maybe you’ve quietly entertained these fantasies without ever imagining that they could one day come true. Google Glass won’t cover all of the details, but this technology can make travel much more convenient while opening your eyes to sights, sounds, and worlds which haven’t been open to you before, even with prescription eyeglasses.

For example, as you enter the airport, you can check your own display of the flight updates. The same technology will let you look up the meaning of signs which are printed in foreign languages as you travel and can help you to pronounce the phrases you need to fully enjoy the culture of each country in which you travel. You don’t need to leave the states to enjoy this technology, though. You can Google the sights and goings-on right in your hometown with a simple voice command.

Hands-Free Means That Your Hands Are Free to Be Used

While on the subject of travel, let’s not forget the impulse to record and save all of those memories you are making as you travel. In fact, one interested professional remarked that the use of Google Glass technology will be more than a “platform”, but will actually be a “lifestyle.”

Yesterday, when Superman slipped on his glasses, he became Clark Kent and hid his super identity behind the frames. Today, the use of new technology combined with the idea of an old pair of cheap eye glasses, will allow average people to slip on their glasses, and break free of the ordinary.
