Goofy politics: GOP's Obama Derangement Syndrome

Goofy politics: GOP's Obama Derangement Syndrome. Republicans, bitter and defeated after a spectacular Democratic victory passing health care reform, are left broken and diseased. Yet even before the crushing defeat, Republicans have been suffering a serious malady: Obama Derangement Syndrome—a pathological hatred of the president posing as patriotism—has infected the Republican Party.

According to a just released Harris poll, Republicans believe Obama:

Is a socialist (67%)
Wants to take away Americans' right to own guns (61%)
Is a Muslim (57%)
Wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one world government (51%)
Has done many things that are unconstitutional (55%).

Also large numbers of Republicans also believe that President Obama:
Resents America's heritage (47%)
Does what Wall Street and the bankers tell him to do (40%)
Was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president (45%)
Is the "domestic enemy that the U.S. Constitution speaks of" (45%)
Is a racist (42%)
Want to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers (41%)
Is doing many of the things that Hitler did (38%).

Even more remarkable perhaps, fully 24% of Republicans believe that "he may be the Anti-Christ" and 22% believe "he wants the terrorists to win."

The ignorance is astonishing, frightening, and appalling. 24% of Republicans believe Obama is the Anti-Christ? Really? How is that possible?

For the record, Obama is not the Anti-Christ; nor is he a socialist. In fact, Richard Nixon was more of a socialist than Obama. Obama is actually fairly moderate.

Obama does not want to take away your gun, he is not even pursuing a sensible gun control policy.

Obama is not a Muslim, he is a Christian, as are the majority of Americans.

Claims that Obama is a racist, or was not born in this country, are just silly; as are comparisons to Hitler, and the belief that Obama wants terrorists to win. Such claims are not even plausible.

The poll reveals that a large portion of the Republican party is just plain goofy! Ignorant, yes. Frightened, yes. Uninformed, yes. But more than anything else, just plain goofy.

How embarrassing it must be to be associated with such ignorance and incompetence; how embarrassing to be associated with so many people, so blinded by hatred, racist and otherwise, that they are unable to distinguish fantasy from reality.

The poll is a diagnosis of Republican disease, a disease that may prove fatal. The GOP may very well self destruct.

A year ago 55% of you meatheads thought he was the messiah.

I guess that derangement syndrome cuts both ways eh?

The poll tells me about 10% of the people have come to their senses.

Believing in the Anti-Christ is for really dumb Christians, smart Christians do not believe in such silly things.
Why are so many Americans crazy - to believe such things? What is wrong here?

People believe goofy things. This is nothing new. Mark Twain even wrote about it. Now we're supposed to be shocked that some of those people who believe goofy things are Republicans. Excuse me while I put on my "concerned look". Should we stand by for your follow up article about the goofy things Democrats believe?

Some people think Obama wants to do away with Americas borders and allow every and any uneducated, diseased third world bimbo who strolls across the border to become an American citizen! Others even believe Obama want to give free health care, social services and education to these same people! Where do Americans get such far flung ideas?

Some even say Obimbo is an American hating lying liberal commie/ socialist money stealing Islamic terrorist thug, who wants to destroy the U.S.Constitution, the republic, all free enterprise, and then give American sovereignty over to his Islamic buddies in the U.N in order to form his idea of a brave new world order. Imagine that!! Where do they get all that sillyness?

C'mon! You know he is not an "Islamic terrorist thug"!

No, I said some say he is.

The author fantasizes: "The GOP may very well self destruct." You're not entirely wrong on this one, even though you write your wishful thinking as if it means something. You're just a little late this time. The Republicans pretty much self destructed quite some time ago. They had to, or the U.S. hating communist liar never could have been elected. Now it looks like your beloved Democrats are deeply engaged in doing the same thing.

Now, I blame Obama directly for all this derangement. The Republicans were perfectly happy and going about their business before Obama came along and got elected President. It was then they became "bitter and defeated after a spectacular Democratic victory passing health care reform" and were left "broken, diseased, and deranged". Maybe Obama should include in the new health care reform bill a clause guaranteeing all deranged Republicans extensive and comprehensive therapy until they are completely cured, rehabilitated, and can rejoin society as productive citizens, completely cured of all their delusions and weird fantasies. It's the least that could be done, I think. Once reeducated by the appropriate gypsies, they could get over being "goofy", "ignorant", "frightened", and "uninformed". Surely, in time, they could be raised up to the astonishingly elevated level of superintelligence, even genius of the Einstein author of this beyond brilliant blindingly bright enlightenment.
