Goodwill’s $1 sale starts Thursday, September 12. This is the day that racks and racks of clothing are reduced to only $1 per piece. One of the best "fishing holes" in Columbia just keeps getting better, and local thrift shoppers wait anxiously for Thursdays. Today’s the day to check your purse for loose change, clean under the couch cushions and shake out your piggy banks!
Goodwill Industries International of Columbia has a half price savings corner filled with racks most days and one dollar racks on Thursdays and Fridays. There are many Goodwill thrift stores in Columbia. Just enter your zip code to in the box where it says Find Your Local Goodwill.
The one dollar racks are crammed with tops and tees, blouses and shirts, jeans, skirts, sweaters. blazers and more. It’s a great way to spend an hour or so, and hidden treasures are sure to show up. There are always some designer labels and name brand fashions. The sale racks usually drop to fifty cents on Sunday for even better fashion fishing.
Goodwill at 2736 Decker Boulevard has an excellent selection of short and long sleeve tops and tees and a tremendous selection of shoes, sandals and handbags. Recent finds have been American Eagle leather shoes in excellent condition and a long, cozy Miss Elaine teal housecoat.
Goodwill at 9630 Two Notch Road has a great selection of jeans, a huge selection of clothing for the family, and racks of brand new scrub tops and pants for men and women. There are some new comfort casual shoes still in boxes, a few formals and wedding gowns, and a nice selection of pant and skirt suits. Fashion finds this week have been a Tyler Rodan handbag and LOFT v-neck tees in like-new condition.
Goodwill at 118 Knoll Station Drive in Lexington has a huge selection, with lots of plus size blouses, knit tops and slacks. These career are corporate separates are generally in excellent condition. Picks of the day are two pair of Cato dress pants with tags still attached and Lane’s End slacks in hard-to-fine tall lengths.

The dollar racks can also help thrifty fashion shoppers earn a little extra money by purchasing name brand clothing in mint condition, such as Calvin Klein and L. L. Bean jeans, Ann Taylor LOFT and Aeropostale juniors’ separates, and Jessica Simpson handbags and reselling them on eBay or at your local consignment shop for much more than you paid.
