Goodwill Industries of Central Florida opens new location

A ribbon-cutting for the brand-new Goodwill Industries of Central Florida location in Melbourne took place on Thursday, May 15, 2014. The 24,000-square-foot West Melbourne Retail Store and Job Connection Center at 2250 Coastal Lane was built almost entirely with American-made products using environmentally conscious construction practices.

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida opened a new location in West Melbourne for Central Floridians to shop, donate and get job placement and training services.

Built by Williams Company located in Winter Park, Florida, the materials used to construct the structure were 99-percent American made to stay in keeping with Goodwill's Made in America Initiative. According to an article by Mary Shanklin in the Orlando Sentinel on April 30, 2013 the Williams Company viewed an ABC World News segment about a home in Bozeman, Montana that was built entirely with American-made materials and parts then took the concept to the executives of Goodwill Industries of Central Florida to suggest the company do the same.

The company embraced the idea of constructing its new projects with American-made products and materials leading to Goodwill's 22,500-square-foot centers in Clermont and Waterford Lakes possibly becoming Central Florida's first commercial projects constructed almost entirely with U.S.A. made products.

The latest project to incorporate American-made construction materials and products with environmentally-conscious building practices is the West Melbourne Retail Store and Job Connection Center. People are invited to drop off donations and shop for items in the newly opened facility. For every 24 pounds of donations, Goodwill can connect one person to job training and placement programs. Goodwill Industries served nearly 32,500 people through its Job Connection Centers in 2013.

West Melbourne Mayor Hal J. Rose attended the ribbon-cutting. “Goodwill is a valued partner among our business community – connecting job seekers with Brevard County employers,” Rose said. “We’re grateful to Goodwill for the life-changing programs it provides to local residents.”

The new West Melbourne location is at 2250 Coastal Lane. The store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information about Goodwill Industries of Central Florida visit their website.
