Saturday and Sunday Aug 17th and 18th, Gooding & company had their Pebble Beach auction.Last year had record breaking sales but this year's was average.
However a few cars hit the million mark. The Bugatti 57SC Atalante surpassed a whopping $8.7 million and a 1955 Ferrari 250 Gt Competizione with Pinin Farina coachwork hit $7,150,000. However, a 1957 Ferrari 250 GT 14-Louver Berlinetta sold at a staggering $9,460,000. The much acclaimed McLaren F1 was sold for 8.5 million.
Award for the lowest selling price at Gooding & Company goes to...a 1977 Volkswagen Beetle at $28,600. Second was the 1950 Crosley Gardner special at $30,800. The tiny 1959 BMW Isetta sold for $33,000.
All of the five auction companies that had auctions during Monterey week generated a combined total of $301.9 Million. Those companies would be RM auctions, Russo & Steele, Mecum, Bonham, and Gooding & Company.
RM auctions was blessed with auctioning off a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S N.A.R.T Spider that sold for a price that makes it the most expensive road car ever sold at an auction. That price? 27.5 million dollars.
