San Jose, CA (January 1) -- Forget the past, prepare for the future! People all over the world gathered in their own way last night during New Year's Eve to put aside last year's life and resolved a better and a more prosperous life in 2012.
Yes, despite the worsening economy, Christmas and New Year's celebrations must go on! All it needed was to be more innovative and creative in celebrating the festivities. Staying with relatives and friends to celebrate finds no limits. All it needs is the desire to be together. The economy crisis is not even a hindrance. The festivities must go on!
With a potluck style of celebration, families just need to bring one main dish and the rest will be taken care by the host. Couples Rocky and Myrna did just like that for the Estiokos and Castillos here in San Jose.
Everybody dined, adults engaged in much needed conversations remiscing the past as relatives and friends do, reconciling past memories, children played, and boom, the party is over!
Now the countdown from the Rockefeller Plaza in New York on television: Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one... Happy New Year... sounding the horn and creating loud noise! Greetings came in from Leo and Amy in Bakersfield; Gigi and Eric from Sydney, Australia; Jojo, Alvi, Kayla, and Bibay from Jacksonville, Florida; Mar from Canada; Orlando and Sharon from Lafayette; Val and Thelma Brillantes from Palm Springs; and Rene and Aurora Rentar from San Jose.
Resolutions were formed and the most common were; stop smoking, never be lazy again, no procrastination, wash dishes, no more drinking, will do school assignment, be more responsible, and stop nagging.
Part of the remembrances mentioned was the glee club performance of a family friend's daughter Jae Jae Aquino before Christmas at the William Burnett Elementary School, home of the Bulldogs. Principal Catherine Waslift was very proud of the 52-member William Burnett Glee Club now only on its second season.
Formed only a year ago, this time, it is much improved and better choreographed than last year with the guesting of Manuel Romero, singing Feliz Navidad and leading the community song, a big brother to one of the glee club members.
Kudos to Burnett teachers and glee club coodinators Jane Carmichael and Susie Barbaran.
Jae Jae, by the way, spent her New Year with her mom Tiffany at the San Diego Airport when they welcomed Sgt. Eric Aquino, her dad, after a one year tour of duty in Iraq.
