World renowned and five time Tony Award winner, 'War Horse' comes to Seattle just in time for Valentine's Day. Take your sweetie or your family to see this fantastic and beloved stage show. As of Saturday, Feb. 9th, good seats still available for various levels of seating for shows running February 13th until the 24th at The Paramount.
Based on a book by Michael Morpurgo that was developed for the stage in 2007 featuring life size puppets that include several farm animals. Centerstage is the award winning puppet that plays "Joey" in the role of a young foal that grows up to be sold as an officer's horse in WWI. The story follows his adventures along with his owners who seek him on both sides of the War. It's the classic tale of friendship between man and horse.
Within the first five minutes you will forget that you are watching puppets and believe that there is a real horse on stage.
That's the consensus I gather from reading reviews and checking with posts from people all over the world who have seen 'War Horse,' which has been playing in New York the past year and just going on tour across the US.
Audiences across the world love this play. It inspired famed movie director Steven Speilberg to re-tell the story in his movie of the same title, 'War Horse.' If you saw the film keep in mind this play is more along the lines of the book and that the film came after. Both screen and stage stories are different and equally good. The story appeals to everyone of all ages and is one of those stories you can see again and again.
The puppets may seem like a headliner for the show, but the show won five Tony awards in 2011:
- Best Play - beating out Book of Mormon
- Best Direction of a Play
- Best Scenic Design of a Play
- Best Lighting Design of a Play
- Best Sound Design of a Play
- And a special award given to Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones of Handspring Puppet Company
