An emaciated poodle mix, stuffed into a plastic bag like unwanted garbage, was discovered by a good Samaritan at a demolition site in Springfield, Mass., reported Wednesday's publication of the Boston Herald.
The little dog, dubbed "Buffy," by staff at the Dakin Humane Society in Leverett, is said to be in "very poor condition."
Buffy was first seen by the agency's veterinarian, Dr. Katie Spaulding, and then transported to a full service veterinary hospital for an array of diagnostic testing.
Staff at the humane society is hoping that someone will recognize Buffy and shed some light on what has happened to her, as well as who is responsible for putting her into a trash bag and abandoning her.
Proceeds from the agency's "Buddy Fund," are being utilized to help get Buffy the care that she needs.
