Good News For FM Patients That Suffer From Migraines

According to a study presented at the 15th Congress of the International Headache Society, Optical Nerve Stimulation (ONS) has been found to help people suffering from migraines.

ONS using infrared laser radiation is an alternative to electrical nerve stimulation and might be effective in managing the severe pain associated with chronic migraine headaches, a symptom in a great number of Fibromyalgia patients. Stephen Silberstein, MD, from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and colleagues worked together in evaluating the safety and efficacy of ONS. One hundred fifty three patients had an Optical Nerve Stimulator implanted in a control study, and significant changes were reported from those patients.

The results provided evidence to support the safety and effectiveness of the ONS for the management of headache pain, which is great news for those dealing with FM.
