Good morning Panama City, our government must help all Americans

Yesterday I said that I thought that if the government helped the poor it would help all Americans; alas I think most people thought I had forsaken my libertarian philosophy and was suggesting some kind of government make work program for the poor.

What I had in mind was an economy so good that it would provide plenty of jobs for poor people, and entry level jobs of all kinds.  Naturally an economy that strong would provide jobs for all Americans.

With the gloom and doom purveyors suggesting that the USA is doomed economically, and with the present government out of ideas to on how to generate large scale economic growth, most people have a gloomy outlook.

Huge economic changes could be made with no government expenditures.  Consider the Keystone XL pipeline, that one project would have provided thousands of jobs; all provided by private industry, at no cost to the taxpayers.  It was turned down to placate the environmental lobby.

Over the course of several decades our energy policy has gradually been abdicated to the environmental lobby.  Today the entire focus of the federal government is the creation of a green energy industry; at taxpayer expense.

If we returned control of our energy decisions to private industry, instead of the federal government millions of jobs would be created; at no cost to the taxpayers.  Just look at North and South Dakota where the shale oil boom is in full swing; less than 4 percent unemployment.  That result provided by private industry, not government stimulus programs.

Today the biggest topic discussed by the talking heads on the TV is the very real possibility of an Israeli preemptive strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities, which most people think would set the entire Middle East aflame.  Our own government is studying its military options, but no one is working on a plan to provide domestic energy supplies in case of a long term disruption of our imported energy supply.

We do have options for a national energy supply.  We have enough natural resources to be energy independent for a century or more.  Does it make any sense to buy oil from the Middle East, and then borrow money from China to pay for it?

If Israel did bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities,, and our oil supplies from the Middle-East were interrupted for years,  how would we supply our military with fuel for any military requirements, including self-defense?  How would we provide fuel for our domestic economy?

The work required to become energy independent would provide plenty of entry level jobs, in addition to jobs in almost every other category.  Millions of good paying jobs would help all Americans.

Rick Santorum has proposed eliminating income taxes for companies building new manufacturing plants.  The liberals would see this as a loss of government revenue, but those jobs do not exist today; we receive zero revenue from those plants as they do not exist.

Suppose thousands of new plants were built, financed by private industry, and those plants created millions of new jobs of all kinds.  Millions of new taxpayers would be created and the government would receive tax revenue form the people who worked in the tax free plants.

If we only concentrated on these two areas millions of new jobs would be created and all Americans would benefit from that success.  Millions of new entry level jobs would be created to help the poor, and all other Americans.

When we eliminate all job killing government regulations to make the creation of these new manufacturing plants possible, and overhaul our tax codes to improve our international competitiveness, even more new jobs will be created.

What I have described will require a revolutionary change in government; instead of passing legislation to benefit big campaign supporters, and important voting blocs; our government will have to concentrate on what will improve the business climate, and the opportunity to attain the American dream for all Americans.

That is the way the founding fathers designed our government.  It is supposed to serve us, we the people; we are not supposed to serve the government.  Our government should be working on a plan to streamline our economy and create millions of new millionaires; instead punishing the ones we have.  We should be working on ways to lift up all Americans.

Would this plan work?  The same plan got us out of the great depression; the millions of jobs created by the war effort of WWII lifted up all Americans by the boot straps, and made us one of the wealthiest countries on earth.

The gloom and doom projections are based on our nation continuing down the path of self-destruction; it does not take into account a dramatic change in our government and economy.  I was born at the end of the great depression, and things looked pretty gloomy then, but by the end of 1948 it was a different country.
