Good Karma Coffee House in Avondale Estates is the first dedicated gluten-free coffee shop in metro Atlanta to offer gluten-free/allergen-free (no gluten, dairy, soy, nuts) baked goods and mixes. Sharonda Frazier, owner and head baker, combine her experience as a former barista with her passion for baking when she launched this business in June 2012. It has been such a success that they have started a Kickstarter campaign to expand their retail space, to obtain new equipment, and to develop new products.
To me, breakfast is a difficult meal to navigate gluten free (or allergen free), so having a safe place to grab a 'cup of joe' and a sweet treat provides a sense of normalcy that others take for granted. I love that they offer multiple types of dairy-free alternatives for coffee/tea and that I can stop in and get a breakfast sandwich on a light and fluffy biscuit made with dairy-free cheese. Since opening, their selection of goodies has expanded to include lunch options too, like cold sandwiches, grilled cheese, pizza, soup, chili, and more.
Good Karma Coffee House's Kickstarter needs are outlined below by Sharonda:
With your support we can further develop our retail space, market our wholesale business and accommodate our growth with much needed equipment necessary for packaging. The retail space would include a front facing freezer that contains products made on site without preservatives that can be sold direct to customers such as baguettes, cupcakes, and pizza crusts.
In order to meet the demand of our customers we also need additional larger mixing bowls to handle the capacity of the flour mixes. We also want to make our packaging more stable and larger so that customers can make multiple portions of their favorite food instead of one portion for one sitting. Your generosity will also allow us to provide our delicious allergen friendly foods to more customers both locally and around the United States by allowing us to develop heavier packaging that will endure shipping and handling. We will produce mixes in larger quantities and include instructional videos, as requested, that will teach people how to use our mixes with delicious results each and every time. Those videos will show step-by-step how to not only make our products but become a more confident gluten-free baker.
Good Karma Coffee House is aiming to raise $2,500 by Thursday, October 31 and every penny counts. Won't you support this local business in its goal to increase their gluten and allergen-free offerings?
