The 6-3 point guard is the second player from the class of 2014 to commit to the Bulldogs joining Silas Melson (Portland, Ore./Jefferson). Perkins picked Gonzaga over UCLA and Minnesota.
Perkins will play his final high school season at Huntington Prep (W.Va.) after spending last season at Denver’s Regis Jesuit. He averaged 25.2 points and 6.5 assists per game last season
Perkins is strong and athletic. He possesses a high motor, has great vision and is a fantastic passer. He also likes to push the ball in transition and has the ability finish at the rim.
With Perkins onboard, Bulldogs’ head coach Mark Few has his heir apparent to junior point guard Kevin Pangos.
Few should have a veteran squad when Perkins and Melson step on the Spokane, Wash. Campus next year. The Bulldogs currently have 10 players eligible to play in 2013-14, which includes Pangos, Gerard Coleman, KyleDranginis, Rem Bakamus, Luke Meikle, Przemek Karnowski and Kyle Wiltjer.
Few is entering his 15th year as the Bulldog’s head coach where he has posted a 374-93 record. He has led the Bulldogs to a NCAA Tournament bid in each of his 14 previous seasons.
