The trailer, which became a Top 10 trending topic on Google that day, has gotten mostly positive reactions. (See comments at the end of this article.) Here is 20th Century Fox's description of "Gone Girl":

"Gone Girl" – directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn – unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

The "Gone Girl" cast also includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Carrie Coon, David Clennon. The movie's producers are Cean Chaffin, Arnon Milchan, Josh Donen and Reese Witherspoon.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who won Oscars for Best Original Score for Fincher's 2010 movie "The Social Network," have signed on to write the original score for "Gone Girl."
