Golf travel: Los Suenos Marriott Ocean and Golf Resort in Costa Rica (Photos)

The La Iguana Golf Course at the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean and Golf Resort has a nice mix of short and long holes, wide fairways and sneaky tough par threes.

Players hit approach shots with the rainforest in the background while monkeys, macaws and other exotic animals make periodic appearances.

The Los Suenos Marriott ranks as the premier resort in the mid-Pacific portion of Costa Rica due to its amazing hotel design and amenities, the remarkable golf course and the added bonus of being in close proximity to spectacular sport fishing.

The resort features several other lodging options that complement the hotel. Guests will find six types of condos, including the Bella Vista, Marbella, Colina, Del Mar, and Hemingway options. Each has a different price point to accommodate the budgets of all tourists.

There are also villas available for rent. They are normally for larger groups of couples, groups of friends or for corporate events.

A popular hole on the 6,698 yard, par 72 is the first one. La Iguana’s leadoff hole is a par-five 578-yard dogleg left tester that’s surrounded by the rainforest.

Several of the par fours are tricky in nature in that they dare golfers to go for the green with driver. The downside is wayward blows are often gobbled up by the heavy jungle.

PGA-qualified professionals, a vast practice range, putting green and TaylorMade rental equipment provide players at La Iguana with top-of-the-line facilities and services.
