Golf tournament benefits disabled, wounded warriors

You can help the disabled and wounded warriors – and get in a round of golf at Dupont Country Club at the same time – by participating in the Yes U Can USA Classic charity golf tournament. It is scheduled for July 21 in Wilmington.

Yes U Can USA is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals with physical and visual disabilities through sports and physical activity. The event is also sponsored by the Eastern Amputee Golf Association, which organizes golf events and clinics for any disabled individual.

The cost is $150 for individuals, $125 for EAGA members. Golfers receive BLAH. There also will be $40 “super tickets” available, which includes $2,000 cash for a hole in one on all par 3 holes; a $5,000 putt for cash; a $50,000 shootout; drawings for golf/spa vacation packages; and more. Tournament games will include closest to the pin and longest drive, and mulligans will be for sale. Golfers can also rent the pro for a tee shot.

The tournament begins with registration from 11 a.m.-noon and includes lunch, driving range, gift bag, cocktails, dinner and awards.

The DuPont Country Club is a par-71 course that features five sets of tees, measuring from 5,255 to 7,120 yards. For several years, it was the site of the LPGA/McDonald’s Championship, and it also has hosted the Delaware State Championship, U.S. Amateur qualifying events and other tournaments.

Former professional football player and inspirational speaker Kevin Reilly will speak at the dinner, as will Steven Stanhope, director of the BADER Consortium. The BADER Consortium seeks to improve the orthopedic rehabilitation of veterans returning from overseas. Those who do not golf can buy tickets for the dinner alone.
